ELK casinos are online casinos that carry slots from ELK Studios, the Stockholm developer behind Wild Toro, Cygnus and the Nitropolis and Pirots series. ELK has been owned by Light & Wonder since Scientific Games bought it in December 2021, and it still releases games under its own name. Below is the casino on our list whose site names ELK, nine ELK slots with the RTP, volatility and exposure printed on ELK’s own data sheets, and a quick way to check which RTP version a casino runs.
All figures come from ELK’s product and game data sheets, read on 8 October 2026. They describe the studio’s standard maths; a casino can use a different setting where its licence allows it, and some review sites quote older or rounded figures that differ from the sheets.

Who ELK Studios is today
ELK’s own about page dates the studio to 2013. The old version of this page said it was making games from 2012 and had released only seven titles by 2016; whatever the early count, the point that ELK releases fewer, carefully built games still holds. In December 2021 Scientific Games announced and completed the purchase of ELK Studios for an undisclosed sum. Scientific Games renamed itself Light & Wonder in 2022, so that is ELK’s parent today.

Licence numbers matter for a supplier because the regulated casino has to use certified games from a licensed supplier. If you ever want to confirm the UK entry, search account 40844 on the Gambling Commission’s public register.
What ELK Studios is known for
ELK builds slots around a strong mathematical idea and gives each game one clear twist. Nitropolis used “Nitro Reels” that can expand the grid to as many as 85,155,840 ways, according to ELK’s game page, and the series has had several sequels. Pirots uses a CollectR mechanic: four birds move across the grid and collect gems of their own colour, and every collected symbol fills a feature meter that awards extra feature symbols. Wild Toro has a walking bull wild that strikes matador wilds and moves one reel to the left each spin.
Another ELK hallmark is X-iter, a menu of bet modes where you pay a multiple of the stake for a spin with better feature odds, or buy the bonus outright. It is popular with players who want to reach the feature quickly, but it multiplies the cost of each spin. Rules in Great Britain are stricter: since 31 October 2021 UK-licensed slots may not offer autoplay, turbo or slam-stop features, a game cycle must last at least 2.5 seconds, and bonus buys are generally not offered at UK-licensed casinos either.
ELK is also one of the few studios that publishes four numbers on every game sheet: RTP, volatility, exposure (the largest win in bets) and hit frequency. That consistency is why our table can compare games directly.
Notable ELK games: RTP and volatility
Volatility uses ELK’s 1 to 10 scale. Exposure is the maximum win in multiples of the bet, and hit frequency is the share of spins that return any win.
| Game | RTP (ELK sheet) | Volatility (1 to 10) | Exposure | Hit frequency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wild Toro | 96.4% | 6 of 10 | 2,250x | 24.9% |
| Cygnus | 96.1% | 8 of 10 | 5,000x | 23.0% |
| Ecuador Gold | 96.1% | 8 of 10 | 2,500x | 24.4% |
| Tahiti Gold | 96.1% | 9 of 10 | 5,000x | 22.5% |
| Hong Kong Tower | 96.3% | 7 of 10 | 3,016x | 20.3% |
| Poltava | 96.4% | 6 of 10 | 1,800x | 24.0% |
| Taco Brothers | 96.3% | 3 of 10 | 1,500x | 24.0% |
| Bloopers | 96.1% | 4 of 10 | 1,850x | 24.3% |
| Electric Sam | 96.0% | 2 of 10 | 2,000x | 40.5% |
The RTPs are tightly grouped between 96.0% and 96.4%, so the real choice is volatility. Electric Sam (2 of 10) wins on 40.5% of spins and suits long, low-stakes sessions. Tahiti Gold (9 of 10) wins on 22.5% of spins and can go quiet for a long time before the bonus pays. ELK’s sheets for its newest series, including Nitropolis and Pirots, are image-only, so we could not read the figures and left them out rather than copy them from third-party sites.
Exposure, max win and hit frequency explained
ELK’s sheets use the word exposure for the largest amount a single game round can pay, expressed in bets. On Cygnus it is 5,000x, and the sheet adds that the maximum win is 500,000 coins, equal to 500,000 euro at the top stake of 100 euro. Exposure is a design limit, not a likely outcome: most players will never see a win anywhere near it.
Hit frequency is the share of spins that return any win at all, including wins smaller than the stake. Electric Sam’s 40.5% means roughly two winning spins in every five; Hong Kong Tower’s 20.3% means one in five. A high hit rate does not mean you are in profit, because many of those wins return less than you bet. It does mean the balance moves more gently.
The three numbers work together. A game with low volatility, a high hit rate and a modest exposure (Electric Sam: 2 of 10, 40.5%, 2,000x) behaves very differently from one with high volatility, a low hit rate and a large exposure (Tahiti Gold: 9 of 10, 22.5%, 5,000x), even though both return close to 96% over the long run. ELK’s bet levels on these sheets run from 0.20 to 100 euro per spin, and casinos may narrow that range.
What being part of Light & Wonder means for players
For players, the change of parent made little visible difference: ELK still designs, names and releases its own games. Behind the scenes, Light & Wonder gave ELK access to a larger distribution network and to the US market, where its parent already supplies regulated online casinos. Scientific Games said at the time that it bought ELK to strengthen its original iGaming content and production capacity.
The practical effect is that ELK games now reach casinos through more channels, including Light & Wonder’s own aggregation platform. That makes it more likely that a given casino has ELK titles, but it also makes it more important to check the RTP setting, because large distributors usually offer operators several configurations.
How to check an ELK game’s RTP at a casino
ELK supplies its games to casinos in many countries, and some markets cap or adjust maths settings. A casino can therefore run a version that differs from the sheet. To check:
- Launch the game at the casino, in demo mode if you can.
- Open the menu (the three lines or “i” button) and choose game rules.
- Find the line that states the theoretical return to player. On ELK games it sits near the end of the rules.
- If you use an X-iter mode, look for its separate RTP figure; bet modes and bonus buys are listed with their own returns.
- Compare with the sheet figure in our table. If the casino’s number is clearly lower, choose a different casino or a different game.
A difference of a few points is significant. On 1,000 euro of total spins, a 96.4% game has an expected cost of 36 euro; at 94% it is 60 euro. RTP is a long-run average, though, and any single session can land far above or below it.
Choosing an ELK slot for your budget
Hit frequency and volatility together tell you how a game will feel. A rough guide using ELK’s own numbers:
- Small budget, long session: Electric Sam (2 of 10) or Taco Brothers (3 of 10). Frequent small wins keep the balance moving.
- Middle ground: Bloopers (4 of 10), Wild Toro or Poltava (both 6 of 10). Features matter, but the base game still pays.
- High risk: Cygnus, Ecuador Gold (8 of 10) and Tahiti Gold (9 of 10). Expect long dry spells; the exposure of up to 5,000x is where the appeal lies.
With bonus money, the calmer games are usually the better choice, because a high-volatility slot can empty the balance before the wagering is done. Bonus terms often also forbid X-iter and bonus buys while a bonus is active; check them before you press the button. Our free spins guide explains how spin values and caps work.
ELK compared with other Swedish studios
Stockholm is home to a cluster of slot studios. ELK sits closest to Yggdrasil in its love of unusual mechanics, while Quickspin, owned by Playtech, focuses more on story and character. Where ELK stands out is its transparency on maths and its 1 to 10 volatility scale. For a wider comparison see our gaming software hub, and for the basics of reels, paylines and RTP our slots guide.
UK players
Only operators licensed by the UK Gambling Commission may offer gambling to people in Great Britain (Gambling Act 2005), and GAMSTOP self-exclusion covers UKGC-licensed sites only. ELK holds a UK supplier licence, but Goldroll is licensed in Anjouan, its terms exclude UK residents, and it is not aimed at Great Britain. UK players should use a UKGC-licensed casino and check it on the Commission’s register. No casino on our list accepts players from the United States.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns ELK Studios?
ELK Studios is owned by Light & Wonder. Scientific Games bought the Stockholm studio on 1 December 2021 for an undisclosed sum, and Scientific Games renamed itself Light & Wonder in 2022. ELK keeps its own brand and release schedule.
Where is ELK Studios based?
ELK is a Swedish studio based in Stockholm. Its UK licence is held by ELKAB Studios AB and its Malta supply licence by ELK Studios Malta Ltd, according to the footer of elk-studios.com.
What does volatility 8 of 10 mean on an ELK game?
ELK rates every game on its own 1 to 10 scale. A score of 8, as on Cygnus and Ecuador Gold, means long gaps between bigger wins; a 2, as on Electric Sam, means frequent smaller wins. The scale is ELK’s own, so do not compare it directly with another studio’s numbers.
What is the RTP of Wild Toro?
ELK’s game data sheet gives Wild Toro an RTP of 96.4%, volatility 6 of 10 and an exposure of 2,250 times the bet. A casino may run a different setting where its licence allows, so check the game rules.
Which ELK slot has the highest RTP?
Among the games in our table, Wild Toro and Poltava share the top figure of 96.4% on ELK’s data sheets, followed by Hong Kong Tower and Taco Brothers at 96.3%. The spread across ELK’s catalogue is small, so volatility is the more useful way to choose between them.
What is X-iter on ELK slots?
X-iter is ELK’s menu of optional bet modes, which lets you pay a multiple of your stake to start a spin with better odds of a feature or to buy the bonus directly. It raises the cost per spin, so the money goes faster, and some regulated markets do not allow feature buys at all.
