A live dealer casino streams real dealers running blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game shows from a studio, with you placing bets on screen while the cards are dealt or the wheel spins in real time. The games come from a handful of licensed studios, led by Evolution, alongside Pragmatic Play Live and Playtech Live, and the casino rents their tables. The best live casino for you depends on the licence, the tables offered, the limits and the rules of each game, not on bonuses: at the four Malta-licensed casinos we list, live games count 0% towards bonus wagering. This page explains how live casinos work, compares house edges, and lists casinos whose licence and terms we checked on 7 and 8 October 2026.

How we chose these live casinos

We checked each licence on the regulator’s register and looked at which live studios the casino is approved to use. On the MGA register, Elmst Limited (Slot Pony and Spin Sweet) lists Evolution among its approved game suppliers; Goldroll names Evolution among its key providers; Quickz (Ludaro Limited) runs a live casino section. Scoring follows our published method in how we rate casinos. We did not play at the tables and do not publish table counts we could not see in the casinos’ own pages, since live lobbies are behind a log-in.

How live dealer casinos work

A live game is a real table in a studio or a land-based casino, filmed by several cameras and streamed to players. The dealer handles physical cards, a wheel or dice; camera systems and optical character recognition read each result and pass it to the game software, which settles bets automatically. You see a betting window with a countdown, place chips on the on-screen layout, and the round plays out on video. Every round is logged, and your game history shows the result and payout.

Some games add a random element on top of the physical game. In Lightning Roulette, for example, a random number generator picks lucky numbers and multipliers each round. Game shows such as Crazy Time combine a physical wheel with RNG-driven bonus rounds. Our guide to what a live dealer casino is covers the history and technology in more depth.

The main live studios

Studio Background Known for
Evolution Founded in Sweden in 2006; bought Ezugi in 2018, NetEnt and Red Tiger in 2020, Big Time Gaming in 2021 and Nolimit City in 2022 The widest range of live tables and game shows, including Lightning Roulette and Crazy Time
Ezugi Part of Evolution since 2018 Live tables with regional variants
Pragmatic Play Live The live division of Pragmatic Play Roulette, blackjack, baccarat and game shows
Playtech Live The live division of Playtech Branded and dedicated tables for operators

Studios license their tables to many casinos, so the same game can appear in several lobbies with the same rules. What differs between casinos is which tables they rent, the limits they allow and the language of the tables. For background on the studios, see our pages on Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech.

Live games and their house edge

The house edge is the casino’s average share of each bet over the long run. It depends on the game and, for blackjack, on the rules and your decisions. The figures below are for the standard versions of each bet.

Game and bet House edge or RTP Note
Blackjack, basic strategy (6 decks, dealer stands on soft 17, double after split, late surrender) 0.28% house edge Worse rules raise it; 6:5 blackjack adds 1.39 percentage points
Baccarat, Banker 1.06% house edge (RTP 98.94% at Evolution) 5% commission on winning Banker bets
Baccarat, Player 1.24% house edge (RTP 98.76% at Evolution)
Baccarat, Tie at 8:1 14.36% house edge Rarely worth it
European roulette (single zero) 2.70% house edge American double-zero wheels: 5.26%
Lightning Roulette RTP 97.30% Straight-up payouts reduced to 29:1 to fund multipliers
Dragon Tiger, Dragon or Tiger (8 decks) 3.73% house edge Tie bets carry far higher edges
Casino Hold’em, Ante 2.16% house edge Side bets higher
Crazy Time RTP 94.41% to 96.08% depending on the bet spot A game show: entertainment first

Two lessons follow. Blackjack with good rules and basic strategy is the cheapest live game to play, and the Banker bet is the cheapest in baccarat. Side bets and game shows cost more per euro staked, sometimes much more. Our guides to blackjack, roulette and baccarat explain rules and strategy for each game.

Blackjack rules that change the edge

Live blackjack tables differ in their rules, and small differences add up. These are the effects on the house edge of common rule changes, in percentage points, based on an eight-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17.

Rule Effect on the house edge
Blackjack pays 6:5 instead of 3:2 +1.39
Dealer hits soft 17 +0.22
Doubling only on 10 or 11 +0.18
No doubling after a split +0.14
No hole card (European rules) +0.11
Late surrender against a ten -0.07

Read the rules panel at each table before sitting down. A 3:2 table with the dealer standing on soft 17 is the one to look for; avoid 6:5 payouts entirely.

What an hour at a live table costs on average

The house edge becomes easier to judge when you turn it into an hourly figure. The table assumes a EUR 10 stake per round and a steady pace; real speed depends on the table and the number of players, so treat the rounds per hour as an assumption, not a measurement.

Game Assumed rounds per hour Staked per hour House edge Average cost per hour
Blackjack, basic strategy, good rules 60 EUR 600 0.28% to 0.5% EUR 1.70 to EUR 3
Baccarat, Banker 60 EUR 600 1.06% EUR 6.36
European roulette 50 EUR 500 2.70% EUR 13.50
Lightning Roulette 50 EUR 500 2.70% (RTP 97.30%) EUR 13.50
Crazy Time (RTP 94.41% to 96.08%) 40 EUR 400 3.92% to 5.59% EUR 15.70 to EUR 22.40

These are averages. Any single hour can end well up or well down, and side bets raise the cost sharply. The point of the table is comparison: the same budget lasts far longer at a good blackjack table than at a game show.

Choosing a table

  • Read the rules panel. Payout for blackjack (3:2, not 6:5), whether the dealer stands on soft 17, and whether the roulette wheel has one zero or two.
  • Check the limits. Minimum and maximum bets are shown on the table tile and in the rules; they vary by table and by casino.
  • Seats and bet-behind. Classic blackjack tables have seven seats; when they are full you can usually bet behind a seated player. Tables built for unlimited players let everyone play the same hand with their own decisions.
  • Language and hours. Studios run tables in several languages, and some tables close at set times.
  • Side bets. They are optional and usually carry a higher edge than the main game.

Bonuses and live games

Live games are the usual exception in bonus terms. At Slot Pony, Taste Vegas, Quickz and Spin Sweet, live casino and RNG table games count 0% towards wagering, so a welcome match cannot be cleared at live tables. Elsewhere, live games often count at 5% or 10%, which multiplies the real requirement by ten or twenty. Low-risk betting patterns, such as covering both red and black, are typically banned while a bonus is active.

For live players the sensible approach is to play without a bonus. Wager-free free spins from a welcome package do not restrict your later play once they are used, so you can take those and still play live with your own money. Our page on welcome bonuses explains which stages are worth taking.

Can a live dealer cheat?

At licensed studios the risk is low and well controlled. Studios hold gaming licences and are inspected by regulators, tables are filmed from several angles, and every round is recorded so disputes can be reviewed. Equipment such as wheels and card shufflers is checked, and many studios use automatic shufflers or shoe changes on a fixed schedule. If you think a round was settled wrongly, note the round ID from your game history and raise it with the casino; it can request the recording from the studio.

The real risk lies elsewhere: an unlicensed casino can show a genuine studio’s stream and still refuse to pay. Check the casino’s licence on the regulator’s register before worrying about the dealer.

Country availability

Live tables are subject to two sets of restrictions: the casino’s list of restricted countries, and the studio’s own market rules. Studios license their games market by market, and in the US Evolution supplies only state-licensed casinos. The four MGA casinos on this page do not accept players from the UK or the US, and they exclude Finland from their welcome offers. If you live in a country with its own licensing, such as Sweden, Denmark or the Netherlands, a locally licensed casino gives you national self-exclusion and local complaint routes at the same tables.

Practical tips for live tables

  • Use a stable connection, ideally Wi-Fi; video streams use far more data than slots.
  • Place bets early in the countdown, especially on mobile, where bets placed in the final second may not register.
  • Check the table’s minimum and maximum bet before you sit; limits vary by table and by casino.
  • Keep to the chat rules; dealers can answer questions but cannot discuss your account.
  • If the stream freezes, check your game history before betting again; rounds settle on the server.
  • Set a session time limit: live games move fast, with a roulette spin about every minute or less.

UK players: these casinos are not for you

Only operators licensed by the UK Gambling Commission may offer gambling to people in Great Britain, under the Gambling Act 2005 as extended to overseas operators by the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014. None of the casinos on this page holds a UKGC licence, and none of them is aimed at UK residents. GAMSTOP self-exclusion only covers UKGC-licensed sites, and UKGC protections such as the 10x cap on bonus wagering in force since 19 January 2026 do not apply offshore. If you live in Great Britain, choose a UKGC-licensed casino and check it on the Commission’s public register.

Play safely

Live games feel social, but the house edge applies to every round. Gambling is for adults only: 18+ in most countries, and higher in some (21 for casinos licensed in Estonia, for example). Set a deposit limit before you claim anything, treat any bonus as entertainment rather than income, and stop if you are chasing losses. In the UK, the National Gambling Helpline run by GamCare is free on 0808 8020 133, around the clock; BeGambleAware and Gambling Therapy offer support in other countries. Our responsible gambling guide lists tools and helplines by country.

Frequently asked questions

What is a live dealer casino?

An online casino section where real dealers run games such as blackjack, roulette and baccarat from a studio, streamed to your screen in real time. You place bets through on-screen controls, and the result comes from the physical cards or wheel.

Will a live dealer cheat me?

At a licensed studio it is very unlikely. Studios such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live and Playtech operate under gaming licences, film every table from several angles and record each round. The bigger risk is choosing an unlicensed casino, not the dealer.

Which software providers offer live dealer games?

The largest is Evolution, which also owns Ezugi. Pragmatic Play Live and Playtech Live are other major studios. The previous version of this page named Microgaming; its live content is now distributed by Games Global.

How can I know if a live dealer casino accepts players from my country?

Check the casino’s list of restricted countries in its terms, then check your own country’s rules. Some studios also restrict tables by market. In the US, for example, Evolution supplies only state-licensed casinos.

Do live casino games count towards bonus wagering?

Often not. At Slot Pony, Taste Vegas, Quickz and Spin Sweet, live casino games count 0% towards wagering. Where they do count elsewhere, it is usually at 5% to 10%.

Which live game has the lowest house edge?

Blackjack played with basic strategy, at well under 1% on good rules. Baccarat’s Banker bet is about 1.06% and single-zero roulette 2.70%. Side bets and game shows usually carry higher edges.
